WATCH: On Senate Floor, Kelly Fights to Keep Utility Bills Low and Protect American Jobs

“President Trump is throwing red tape around our energy production, which will raise utility bills and send American manufacturing jobs back overseas”

Today, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly took to the Senate floor to push back against President Trump’s decision to block clean energy production and manufacturing—warning that his actions will drive up utility bills for families and kill American manufacturing jobs.

Kelly highlighted how energy demand is skyrocketing in Arizona and across the country, and how the U.S. is producing more power than ever before, including bringing back manufacturing of solar panels, wind turbines, and batteries.

“Well, here’s the bad news: President Trump is throwing red tape around our energy production, which will raise utility bills and send American manufacturing jobs back overseas. One of his first actions as President was to block approvals of new wind projects on federal lands and freeze loans and grants for clean energy projects,” Kelly said.

“President Trump is trying to pick winners and losers when it comes to energy. The winners are fossil fuel companies and China,” Kelly continued. “The losers are everybody else. Families are going to face higher utility bills. Manufacturers are going to lose the support they were counting on. Workers are going to see their jobs go back overseas.”

Kelly ended his speech by urging his colleagues to support the bipartisan effort led by Senators Kaine and Heinrich to prevent these harmful policies.
