Kelly Statement on Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense

Arizona Senator and former U.S. Navy combat pilot Mark Kelly issued the following statement on opposing Pete Hegseth’s nomination for Secretary of Defense in a vote in the Senate Armed Services Committee today:  

“The Secretary of Defense is one of the most important roles for keeping our country safe and we need someone who is ready to step into the job and succeed on day one. Pete Hegseth doesn’t bring the kind of experience that prepares someone to do this massive job, and he was unable to answer direct questions at his hearing about concerning personal issues. I’ll be voting against his nomination.  

“Whether it’s Pete Hegseth or someone else, I’ll always work with the Secretary of Defense to support Arizona’s defense installations and strengthen our national security.”
