Kelly, Sinema: University of Arizona Awarded $500,000 to Boost Agricultural Teacher Training

Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema announced a $500,000 workforce development grant awarded to the University of Arizona to boost teacher training in food and agricultural science. 

“I’ve heard from ranchers, farmers, and educators in every corner of Arizona about the need for training the next generation of agriculture professionals. As Arizona’s agriculture industry continues feeding the country, I’m glad the U of A will receive this critical funding to support future growth in this important sector of our economy,” said Kelly.

“Today’s grant funding invests in training future agriculture science teachers, helping ensure our agriculture industry continues to grow and serve as an economic engine for Arizona,” said Sinema.

Awarded by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), this $500,000 agricultural workforce training grant will increase the number of K-14 teachers and education professionals trained in the food and agricultural sciences. Funded projects in this program will provide best practices in teaching that enhance student learning outcomes. This grant is part of NIFA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative – the country’s leading competitive grants program for agricultural sciences.
