Sen. Mark Kelly bill would suspend federal gas tax to ease costs

Sen. Mark Kelly and Sen. Maggie Hassan are teaming up on legislation that would suspend the federal gas tax until 2023 in an attempt to lower gas prices. Kelly, D-Ariz., and Hassan, D-N.H., have introduced legislation that would lower the total price of gas by just under 20 cents per gallon. The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon for standard gasoline and 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel fuel. With implementation of the Gas Prices Relief Act, the federal tax would be suspended until Jan. 1, 2023.
