Week in Review: Sen. Kelly visits Phoenix STEM high school, sits down with Univision and Telemundo

This week, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly inspired Phoenix-area high school students and sat down with both Univision and Telemundo. On Wednesday, Kelly visited The Academies at South Mountain where he met with flight, engineering, law, and JROTC program students and encouraged them to continue pursuing STEM fields and consider military service.

First, Kelly met with students in the flight and drone programs and talked about his experience as a Navy pilot and NASA astronaut. He then got the chance to see and try a flight simulator.

The next stop in the tour was an engineering classroom where students shared with Kelly their love for math and showed him different prototypes they’ve been working on.

Finally, Kelly spoke to an auditorium of law and JROTC program students and encouraged them to continue sharpening their skills in scientific and technical work. As a combat veteran, Kelly also shared stories from his military service and emphasized how that opened doors for his career. The students asked him questions about his career as an astronaut, his time in the Navy, and his role in Congress.
