U.S. Senate Page Program

Pages play an important role in the day-to-day operations of the Senate. The Page Program provides the opportunity for high school juniors to get involved in public service, and witness firsthand the legislative process in the United States Senate. Participation in the Page Program also requires enrollment in the Page School.

Pages begin their day early with breakfast, followed by their classes at the Page School, and then report to work as a Page. A Page’s workday is determined by the Senate schedule and can vary daily. Students who display strong maturity, are highly responsible, and excellent with time management make successful candidates for the Page Program.

The Page Program is offered year round across four sessions: fall, spring, and two summer sessions.

Page positions are highly competitive. Only 30 page positions are offered each session among all 100 senators. Because of this, not all senators are able to sponsor a page.

REQUIREMENTS

• Senate Pages must be sponsored by a Senator;
• Pages must be citizens or permanent resident of the United States or subject to agreements of the Department of State, and must have a social security number;
• Semester Page eligibility is limited to juniors in high school who will be 16 or 17 years old on or before the date of appointment;
• Summer Page eligibility is limited to students who have completed the sophomore year and who will be 16 or 17 years old on or before the date of appointment;
• Pages must verify a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0/B and a certification of immunization to qualify for school attendance;
• Pages must provide a general health assessment completed by a licensed physician and a certification of immunization; and
• Pages are required to be covered by health insurance; if not covered, they will be required to enroll in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process consists of an online application, essay question, and submission of a resume and two letters of recommendation. Ideally, letters of recommendation written on the candidate’s behalf will be from mentors, school counselors, teachers, supervisors, etc.
