IN THE NEWS: Infrastructure Investments Arriving to Arizona Thanks to Kelly-Shaped Law

Did you hear? Thanks to Senator Mark Kelly’s work on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the bipartisan infrastructure law, Arizona can expect billions of dollars invested in the state’s infrastructure, from Yuma to Phoenix to the Navajo Nation. 

Kelly is one of the members of the Senate bipartisan group that negotiated and shaped the $1.2 trillion infrastructure law, and was part of working groups made up of Senators to draft specific portions of the legislation, including those focusing on water and power infrastructure, superfunds and brownfields, permitting, and wildfire mitigation.

Payson Roundup: Infrastructure plans could boost county broadband plan

Rural Arizona has a big stake in how the proposed national expansion of broadband coverage in two new infrastructure bills plays out.

Many households in Navajo, Apache and Gila counties don’t have internet — because they can’t get a signal or can’t afford to pay the rates if they can get service, according to one statewide study. […]

However, efforts to expand and improve service in all three counties have languished for years for lack of funding.

The first, $1 trillion, federal Infrastructure and Jobs Act included an estimated $100 million to improve broadband infrastructure in Arizona. President Joe Biden has already signed that act into law, including the national pot of $65 billion to improve internet access.
